HISTORY ON BACK READS:
Built in 1880, this unusual type of revival-style residence is referred to as an "Eyebrow" house.
The large pediment-ed windows may seem out of scale, but they are necessary for air circulation.
The overhanging roof eave shades the upstairs windows. The low roof line also serves to catch cool breezes.
The "eye" windows on the second story are the same size as those on the first floor, but are
partially hidden behind the overhanging roof "brow." While there are 30 examples of such houses in
Key West, they do not exist anywhere else in Florida.
